Internship and Job Shadowing

Internship engages students in learning through practical worksite experience. It is a specified period when students work for an employer to learn about a particular industry or occupation. The internship programme is an initiative to build the capacities of students wanting to understand different careers. It enables students to:

  1. Gain hands-on experience of a career.
  2. Improve or develop skills in a specific field.
  3. Test their suitability for a particular career.

Job shadowing is a structured career activity where students can take an up-close look at the world of work. Students enter a host company to 'shadow' a mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job. This gives students a chance to understand the daily routine of their interested career. The objectives of job shadowing are to allow students to:

  1. Gain information about possible future career.
  2. Have a chance to observe the working environment and decide if the career is suitable for them.
  3. Know more about the requirements of the professions and industries to help them to be prepared to join the workforce and discover their potential.
