Internship and Job Shadowing

Internship engages students in learning through practical worksite experience. It is a specified period where students work for an employer to learn about a particular industry or occupation. The internship programme is an initiative to build the capacities of students wanting to understand different careers. It can enable students to:

  1. Gain hands-on experience of a career.
  2. Improve or develop skills in a specific field while participating in the world of work.
  3. Test their suitability for a particular career.

Job shadowing is a structured career activity where students can take an up-close look at the world of work. Students go into a host company to 'shadow' a mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job. This gives students a chance to shadow someone in your career path interest area. The objectives of job shadowing are to allow students to:

  1. Gain information about possible future career interests.
  2. Have a chance to observe the working environment and decide if the career area is appropriate for them.
  3. Know more about the requirements of professions and industries to help them prepare to join the workforce and achieve their potential.
